Administrative authorities accepting CAEQ evaluation

 

Conseil des appellations réservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV), for the following accreditation scopes:

  • certification of organic products according to the Quebec Organic Reference Standards and Canada’s Organic Standards.
  • certification of products bearing a reserved designation pertaining to one of the following three categories:
    • production method;
    • designation of origin or protected geographical indication;
    • specificity (including the one that leads to the designation "traditional specialty guaranteed");
  • certification of products (or services) according to a private specification manual;
  • recognition of programs intended to certify organic products originating from outside Quebec and intended for sale in Quebec.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), for the following accreditation scope:

European Commission (EC), for the following accreditation scope:

  • certification of organic products according to standard recognized as being equivalent with the EC Council Regulation 834/2007, for inclusion of the certification body in the list of recognized control bodies and control authorities for the purpose of equivalence.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), for the following accreditation scope:

  • certification of organic products originating from Canada according to the terms of the Canada/US Organic Equivalency Agreement for organic products intended for the U.S. market.

Basis for evaluating certification bodies’ competence

Regardless of the accreditation scope requested, all certification body competence evaluations are conducted in order to grant an accreditation attesting to compliance with ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996 (EN 45011:1998), in accordance with the regulatory requirements that govern the accreditation services offered by the CAEQ.
